Medium: Japanese Sumi Ink on Hot Press 200gsm Fabriano Paper
Size: 150cm x 210cm

Painted live in front of an audience as a finale of an inter-disciplinary performance “Odyssey of the Circle” (in collaboration with audio-visual duo Lola and Yukao Meet) staged in Clamecy, France, October 2022.

The work draws inspiration from Enso, the iconic circular symbol, considered to be the pinnacle of Zen Buddhism. Empty yet full, infinite yet complete. It symbolises unity, enlightment, strength and elegance in all its purity and simplicity.
It reflects Japanese aesthetics and Zen-philosophy of capturing being in a flow with energy. The artist paints the circle in one breath, with no corrections permitted afterwards.

"Enso - Odyssey of the Circle” 2022

The work draws inspiration from Enso, the iconic circular symbol, considered to be the pinnacle of Zen Buddhism. Empty yet full, infinite yet complete. It symbolises unity, enlightment, strength and elegance in all its purity and simplicity. It reflects Japanese aesthetics and Zen-philosophy of capturing “being in the flow” with energy. The artist paints the circle in one continuous flow, in one breath and no corrections permitted afterwards.”The circle brushes itself in a synchronistic way, with very little effort and control by the artist. The true creative spirit takes over and the work creates itself beyond anyone’s expectations.” Glassman, Infinite Circle - Teachings in Zen

In this particular work, ink splashes mark the invisible flow generated from the brush movement in the air prior to the connection with the paper. The Enso circle finishes in the exact place where it started. Each Enso is unique and expresses artist’s energy in the moment. A minimalistic Zen artwork connecting viewers to synchronicities and live energy caught on paper.

This work is part of the artist’s ongoing practice of Enso painting since 2018 as a gateway to synchronicities in painting. Following her visits to Japan in 2018 and 2019, the artist has been studying the traditional art of Japanese calligraphy known as shodo from a Japanese teacher Rie Takeda. Over the years, Kamila has developed her own painting style blending Zen elements with her other practice of movement and performance. This is the first time artist painted Enso on such a large scale, and in front of a live audience with live music composed specifically for this performance.

The artwork comes with a 25min live video footage from the performance (for private use only).
The paper can be shipped as it is; in a well-secured long tube, ready for framing of your choice. It can also be framed prior to shipping on request, please enquire for price.
