‘The Circle Of Japanese Transformation’ 2018

This was my first painting, a metaphor for my own transformation after living on my own in Kyoto, Japan in August 2018.

I have chosen to use my favourite structure of all, a circle, to act as a background for the composition. I was drawn to paint classic Japanese elements including a cherry blossom and a Japanese red crown crane (a symbol of longevity, for me also a symbol of a performer and a dancer). Only three main colours were used to pay tribute to Japanese purity and simplicity.

The original is on display at the artistic air b&b in Lincoln. Due to a popular demand, this painting has been made into a series of prints!
